Disney weekend in 5 photos

July 30, 2020 · In: Travel

Disney World is my favorite place; I’ve loved it since childhood! Brandon and I have visited several times together, including on our honeymoon. When we started 50 in 5, we agreed that we needed to visit a different spot in Florida during our travels. After begging Brandon to attend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Disney World, we agreed to a quick weekend trip with an added stop in St. Augustine.

A little different from previous posts, I’m going to share a simple 5 photo recap:

Cap’s on the Water

On our drive to Lake Buena Vista, we stopped in St. Augustine for lunch. I chose Cap’s for the scenery, but the food was delicious as well—ahi tuna for Brandon and shrimp caesar salad for me. The restaurant is entirely open air, and we enjoyed a beautiful view of the water as we ate.

RESORT EXPLORERS

We love “resort hopping” at Disney World, and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of my favorites to visit. I love the Polynesian-inspired design, the music, the restaurants, and most of all… the Dole Whips. I’d love to stay at this resort someday, if the rooms weren’t over $500/night at all times. ? A nearby Clarion does the trick for us when we’re in town, but we always stop at the Polynesian for my favorite breakfast before coming home.

Christmas tidings

I’ve always wanted to visit the Grand Floridian at Christmastime to see the life-size gingerbread house and gorgeous tree. It’s stunning! However, this photo does not show the insane amount of people who were milling about to see the decorations. At Disney World I’ve come to expect huge crowds in the parks, but also in the resorts around the holidays.

Butcher Board

Have you ever seen a more delicious flat lay? ? Our Butcher Board at The Polite Pig was a highlight of the weekend.

Castle twinkle

We loved Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The crowd was low, and we rode several rides with short wait times. We stopped at every spot around the park for free cookies, cider and hot chocolate. Our favorite stop, though, was for mini snow cones (it’s still Florida, after all). The Christmas parade and special fireworks in front of the castle capped off a great night. Brandon, can we go back?

Visiting the @tillamook factory in Oregon was a highlight of last year for me, and I insisted that Brandon take my photo with my free cheese sample to commemorate the occasion. 😂
My stepdaughter turns 16 tomorrow, and our family My stepdaughter turns 16 tomorrow, and our family surprised her by dressing up as ourselves at 16 for her birthday party over the weekend. It brought back waves of nostalgia.

What a year 16 was! I traveled to Spain, France, and Italy on a school trip over the summer. I got my license and drove my mom’s mini van every chance I had. I loved my first job scooping ice cream at Maggie Moo’s and spent all my paychecks at American Eagle. After much begging, my parents gave me my first cell phone.

In junior year English class, I tried to memorize the Old English prologue to “The Canterbury Tales” and can now admit many years later that I failed to do so… literally, I failed the most infamous assignment of 11th grade. I thought I would never recover at the time, but not being able to quote Chaucer has had shockingly little impact on my life. 🤷‍♀️ I loved singing in Glee Club, being on the yearbook staff, and volunteering with Key Club. I hated Latin class. And math class. And chemistry most of all.

I fell in love for the first time, quickly and naïvely, and was devastated when it didn’t work out. Before prom, I slipped and tumbled all the way down the staircase in front of my date and my family.

I loved spending time with my youth group at church and hanging out with friends. The best show on tv was “The O.C.,” and you couldn’t tell me differently. I wanted so badly for time to fly so I could leave for college, but now I know that time is a thief.

I also understand now that at 16, there’s no way to know how your life will unfold. Isn’t that the best part and the worst part at the same time?

Swipe for two people who would have disliked each other immensely in high school. 😂
