I haven’t written in this space since my Farewell, Spring 2021 post. Summer wasn’t especially busy, but I’ve been admittedly uninspired lately, and not interested in working on anything other than my full-time job. It takes all of my energy, and then some. Still, I like writing these recap posts so I can come back and read them later. I’m writing now from DFW airport, as we return home from a wonderful vacation. More about that in my fall 2021 post, I suppose. 😉 For now, a random Schmidt pic to get this started:
What I read
This summer, I finally read the majorly-hyped “Untamed,” by Glennon Doyle. I was delighted to discover that it’s just as good as I hoped! I also sped through “Such a Fun Age,” and am now working on “Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come: An Introvert’s Year of Living Dangerously.”
Where I traveled
In June, I spent five days in San Francisco with my best friends from high school. Our trip had been re-scheduled from April 2020, and it was a perfect visit. We explored Martha’s new San Francisco neighborhood, ate great food, visited Filoli Gardens and Half Moon Bay, and talked for hours. It was a slow-paced visit, and just what we all needed. I wish I could see them both more often!

What I listened to
Shortly after our visit to San Francisco, Jennifer and I attend our first post-pandemic concert: Dave Matthews Band. While they aren’t one of my favorite bands, it was a fun show. And it was a great feeling to see live music again for the first time since 2019!
what i celebrated
On August 8, I completed a year of learning French on Duolingo. 🎉🇫🇷 To mark the occasion, I bought a Le Creuset dutch oven — a kitchen item I’ve wanted for years. I know it will get so much use, and I’ll likely have it for the rest of my life. I have no plans to stop my language learning any time soon, either. We’re hoping to visit France in 2023, so I’m excited to see how far I advance before then!
What i ate
It was summer. I exclusively ate ice cream. 😉
On the horizon
This fall, we’re taking a week off of work to finally tackle a huge home improvement project I’ve been looking forward to for years: updating our kitchen!
