When someone you love dies, every photograph of them becomes extra special. I have countless photos with my dad from my childhood, but anything after middle school is few and far between. A couple of weeks ago, my mom was digging through some boxes that have been packed up since the year he died. She found an SD card and asked me to check to see if there were any photos on it.

There weren’t many, and I laughed at how random they were. A cat. Another cat. Thanksgiving. A trip to Krispy Kreme. A beach vacation. I don’t remember seeing this picture from my college graduation day before. It feels like a gift to discover it after so many years.

It’s my eighth Father’s Day without him here and while this is always my least favorite day of the year, today stings just a bit more. I have a laundry list of ridiculous things that have happened over the last six months I’d love to discuss with him, but can’t. Instead, I made blueberry muffins this morning and cleaned up the basement—two things he’d likely spend his Sunday doing.

If you’re celebrating with your dad today, make sure to take some photos. You’ll be glad you did. 💙
